Accelerate Your Career Through Purpose

Have you ever felt the proverbial ‘imposter syndrome’? A feeling that one day people around you may discover that you don’t know as much as they expect you should know or that you cannot do the things they expect you to do?

Do you sometimes have doubts about your current job or professional line? Wondering: “Is this really the right job for me?” Can you say with all certainty that you are on the right career path and you will be happy and fulfilled retiring in this career path?

If any of these questions resonate with you, then maybe you should read on.

What is your purpose?

A Harvard Business Review (HBR) article states that 9 out of 10 people are willing to earn less money to do more meaningful work. If you are like me, I’m sure you want to know what ‘more meaningful work’ really means (pun intended ). I believe meaningful work starts from finding your purpose.

One of the most prominent quotes on purpose by Myles Munroe states:

When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable

Understanding your purpose is the first key to ensuring your don’t ‘abuse yourself’. Now in case you’re wondering if that’s even possible let me put it this way — when something is being used in a way other than how it was intended to be used, that’s known as abuse. A good example is drug abuse.

So, the question for you right now is “Is your job abusing you?” I’m not sure if anyone has ever asked you that question before, but I strongly believe it’s a question every career professional should answer.

The key to finding the answer to that question lies in the earlier quote from Myles Munroe “When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable”. So to answer if your job is abusing you or not, you need to first answer the question – what is your purpose?

Before you quit reading because you think this question is fluffy, please bear with me a little bit more.

When I ask what your purpose is, I’m not looking for something esoteric or metaphysical. Here at 3G Action, we believe in providing practical steps that you can act on and grow. So, when I ask for your purpose, I am looking to help you identify or confirm the link between your purpose and your job in the most practical way possible.

Finding the right career path

We will do this through 3G Action’s Talent and Passion Assessment®. The assessment is based on the principle that your purpose is inherent in you and though you may not be acutely aware of it, you are intuitively aware of it. The Talent and Passion Assessment therefore helps raise your awareness to your purpose, connecting it to your passion, purpose and career. This assessment helps you find purpose in your work and helps you find the right career path for you.

In the assessment, Talent, refers to something that you are able to do better than most people, something that people have said you’re good at doing, something that you easily find ways of improving. Your talent speaks to what your strengths, super-power, and unique abilities. When your job is aligned to your talent, you are playing to your strengths and better positioned to accelerate in your career.

Passion refers to something that evokes a strong sense of fulfillment in you, something that you lose track of time doing, something that you are willing to keep doing even without being paid. Your passion speaks to your driving force and source of motivation.
